The Paris official agency recently revealed that the monthly pass for public transport in the Paris region will be raised from 75.2 euros to 84.1 euros from next year.

The public transport management department of the Paris region revealed the price increase on the same day and said that the new fare would be implemented from January 1 next year.

French media earlier predicted that the price of a monthly pass for public transport in the Paris region would rise to 90 euros. The lower-than-expected prices were mainly due to a government subsidy for the Paris region's bus system.

The French government said on the same day that it will provide 200 million euros in subsidies to the Paris region's public transport system to help complete the 450 million euros necessary for its operating budget next year to ease the impact of inflation and the energy crisis.

Pecres, chairman of the Paris Regional Council in charge of public transport affairs in the Paris region, said that officials should take measures to prevent public transport monthly tickets from rising to 90 euros.

She said it would be "unthinkable" if the price of a monthly pass rose to 90 euros. The public transport passengers in the Paris region support the actions taken by the authorities. Still, the officials have finally recognized the difficulties faced by the Paris region's public transport system.

Pecres also expressed hope that companies in the Paris region will increase employer reimbursement for public transport monthly passes from 50% to 75%.
